2020 was a year that I had more time to slow down my life and observe interesting things around me. Domestic things in my kitchen always make me get lots of inspiration when I am creating my art pieces. I love to combine those joyful ideas I get in my kitchen with my textile together to make the 2020 pandemic year become a little fun and not panic anymore.

With this new series of textile work, I explore combining multiple textile techniques such as felting, and beading to tell stories that raise awareness about the notion of women’s work in Taiwanese society. As a twenty-five year old Taiwanese woman, I have been inspired by a traditional story that also gives its title to my project. In Taiwanese society it is commonly considered that life requires marriage to be complete, and is therefore empty for a woman who never has children. I want to use my own voice to talk about gender roles and gender inequality problems in Taiwan from my personal experience and observations. Bringing the domestic ideas into my textile work to raise the issue not only happening in my life but also around the world.
